Hi, there!
Happy Saturday from the Monarc Chronicles, your writing prompt companion through life’s transitions. This week’s theme is about finding presence in transit.
I’ve spent a large part of this past week in transit. As I write this, I’m sitting in a small IndiGo plane, waiting to take off from Udaipur to Jaipur. Because I’m only in India for a limited time, I’ve been trying to experience the parts of the trip during which we’re in transit (in a car, on the train, at the airport, flying), not as moments to forget until we reach our next destination, but as small wanders, too. Traveling to new cities this week got me thinking about all the times I’m “on my way!” back home. New York is a city of transit. Thousands of subway rides, Citibike commutes, brisk walks and texted ETAs. What am I doing when I’m in transit? Where does my mind go? Do I think about what I’m leaving? Do I stand on the 4 train anxious about being late? How can I help myself remember that being in transit is, also, a time worth experiencing?
This week’s prompt:
Write about your relationship to states of transit. How do you experience the times you spend traveling from point A to B? Would you like this relationship to change? If so, how?
